Hey Mama, let’s be real—keeping your home organized can feel like an uphill battle, especially with little ones running around or life being… well, life. But here’s the secret: it’s not about being perfect; it’s about building habits that stick. Before having children my home was always perfect so you can imagine my frustrations as things changed, 🙂 but I quickly had to learn some new habits that I will share with you here. These five simple and easy habits will help you keep your home neat, stress-free, and ready for anything all year long.
1. Tidy Up Daily
A quick 10–15 minutes each day can work wonders. Whether it’s clearing the dining table after dinner or fluffing the throw pillows on the couch, these small actions prevent messes from piling up. I make it a habit of tidying up every night to wake up to a somewhat clean home. It helps me get my day off to a great start.
2. Everything Has a Home
If it doesn’t have a designated spot, it’s going to end up as clutter. Invest in storage solutions like bins, baskets, and drawer dividers to keep things in their rightful place. Create sections in your home to stay consistently organized.
3. Declutter Regularly
Schedule time every month to review your stuff. This hack is simple yet so effect. Don’t wait until the end of the year to declutter but make it a habit. If you haven’t used it in a while or it doesn’t spark joy (yes, we’re borrowing from Marie Kondo here!), it’s time to donate or toss it.
4. Stick to the One-In, One-Out Rule
For every new item you bring into your home, commit to letting go of an old one. This keeps your space from feeling overcrowded and helps you avoid unnecessary clutter. I’ll be transparent with you, I still struggle with this habit but it’s worth trying again this new year.
5. Create a Cleaning Schedule
Make a weekly routine for chores like vacuuming, laundry, and wiping down surfaces. It’s less overwhelming when you tackle small tasks consistently. Bonus: it makes your home feel fresh every day! I have laundry day 3 times every week. find what works best for you and stick with it.
Why These Habits Matter
Organized homes lead to organized minds. When your home feels under control, everything else feels a little easier too. These habits aren’t about being perfect—they’re about creating a rhythm that works for you and your family.
