Hey Dear Mama, can you believe 2025 is around the corner? The New Year is the perfect time to let go of the old and make room for the new – and that starts with your living space. Decluttering doesn’t just clear your home; it clears your mind, too. Over the years this has been a routine that works for me. Let’s get into your ultimate 2025 reset checklist to help you start fresh and feel lighter.
1. Take It One Room at a Time
Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to tackle your whole house at once. Start small, maybe with the kitchen or bedroom, and focus on one room a day or a week. The key is to start at your earliest convenient time. I usually start to declutter my home in November to give me enough time and I often start with my kids bedroom.
2. The “Keep, Donate, Toss” Rule
Grab three boxes or bags. For every item you pick up, decide if you’ll keep it, donate it to someone in need, or toss it. Be honest – do you really need those jeans from 10 years ago? I know sometimes it may be difficult to let go of things. A rule that helps me with this every time is “if I haven’t used it in one year and it’s not a memory item then it has to go”. Give this rule a try as you declutter your home and you might be surprise at the items you put into the boxes.
3. Declutter Decor, Too
It’s not just closets that need love! Take a good look at your home decor. Does that vase still bring you joy? Was it gifted by a loved one? Are there pieces you could repurpose or give a fresh look? Do you still like the style or see yourself decorating with it in the future? For you to have a productive declutter process, you need to be completely honest with yourself.
4. Organize by Zones
Set up “zones” in your home to make life easier. Create a designated spot for mail, shoes, toys – whatever tends to clutter your space. Setting up zones helps you personalize your home too. For example do you work remotely? Then setup a home office etc…
5. Refresh Your Space
Once you’ve decluttered, it’s time to add little touches to make your home feel new again. Think fresh throw pillows, a new rug, or even a coat of paint on your walls. Also, shop your home to make things feel like new if your are working on a budget. Bring your bedside lamp or vase to your living room and vise versal.
6. Create a Decluttering Schedule
The key to staying clutter-free is maintenance. Set a reminder to declutter one small area every week through-out the year. A little effort regularly means less work later! Don’t wait only until the middle or end of year for spring cleaning but make it a habit in your home.
7. Don’t Forget Emotional Clutter
Your reset isn’t just about physical stuff. Let go of guilt, old habits, and things that no longer serve you. Journaling or meditating can help you start the year with a fresh mindset. You can allocate a few minutes everyday to do this.
Why Decluttering Matters
When your home feels light and organized, so do you. You’ll have more energy, more focus, and more room to create the life you want in 2025.
